Williamston, North Carolina
Williamston is a good Sized town. There are over 5500 residents living there today. That amounts to nearly a fourth of Martin County’s population. Estimates have been given that a village was established by early american settlers as early as 1730. Williamston was most likely to have been named after Colonel William Williams. Colonel William Williams’ family owned a predominate part of the county’s plantations. in turn they became a very important part of the areas history. As county lines were drawn and redrawn the town has been located in three different counties. Williamston was located inside Edgecombe and then Halifax county at various times in its early history.
According to an oral heath study administered by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, 75% of ten to eleven year old’s have some form of decayed, missing or filled permanent (adult) teeth. That number may seem high, but it is congruent with the national average. Even so it is a sign of how important dental health is during all stages of life especially children. Annual checkups are necessary part of keeping great oral health and hygiene from the very earliest stages of life to the latest.
